Today I’m taking part in the blog tour for the second of the three Little Duck Pond Cafe books stories involving Clara, the first being Clara’s Secret Garden, which I reviewed here. Many thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for having me on the tour and sending me a copy of the book to review.
The Book: With her new-found happiness unexpectedly crushed, Clara is struggling to move forward. It’s hard – especially with step-sister Lois bouncing around the place with joy and making all sorts of plans for the future. And when the household is shocked by a mysterious break-in and a neighbour makes a shocking accusation, Clara finds herself in an impossible position. It’s a situation that threatens to destroy her blossoming romance almost before it’s begun . . .

The Review: I loved this book. In this one we follow Clara once again as her story continues. I wasn’t her biggest fan in the previous story but in this one I liked her a lot more. I felt liked she’d changed a bit from the first story and I liked it. The characters relationships continue to develop and we get to see more of Irene, Clara’s step-mum, which I enjoyed. I felt Irene’s backstory was handled well, and shows that you can’t make assumptions about people, for anyone could be fighting a battle you don’t know about, or understand.
There was a lot going on in this story, somehow it felt more happened in this one that the previous one, but I liked this. All the threads that were in the first story were continued here and developed, which gave even more depth to the story and the characters. It was good to see everything progress in the way that it did, and I’m excited to see how and if things conclude in the third story, which I’m reviewing next month.
Rosie’s series of novellas is centred around life in a country village cafe. ‘Clara’s Secret Garden’, the first in a trilogy telling Clara’s story, was published in August, and ‘A Winter Wish’ is Book 2. Look out for ‘Clara’s Christmas Magic’, the third and final book in the trilogy, out in November 2022.
