#BlogTour #Review : Smoke Screen by Thomas Enger and Jorn Lier Horst. @EngerThomas @OrendaBooks

Today I’m reviewing the second book in the Blix and Ramm series. Many thanks to Anne Cater and Orenda books for having me on the tour and sending a copy of the book to review.

The Book:

Oslo, New Year’s Eve. The annual firework celebration is rocked by an explosion and the city is put on terrorist alert.

Police officer Alexander Blix and blogger Emma Ramm are on the scene, and when a severely injured survivor is pulled from the icy harbour, she is identified as the mother of two-year-old Patricia Semplass, who was kidnapped on her way home from kindergarten ten years earlier … and never found.

Blix and Ramm join forces to investigate the unsolved case, as public interest heightens, the terror threat is raised, and it becomes clear that Patricia’s disappearance is not all that it seems…

The second in the hard-boiled and furiously compelling Blix & Ramm series, created by Thomas Enger and Jørn Lier Horst, two of the biggest names in Nordic Noir.

The Review: This book starts off with a bang, in more ways than one. It’s fast paced from the beginning and doesn’t let up. There’s some unexpected information, an explosion, and then an investigation that initially creates more questions than it answers.

The descriptions of the places, people and how they react to what is happening is brilliantly written. The tension and confusion leaps off the page, grabs you and draws you in. I found that I couldn’t get away from it, I had to keep reading to find out what happened next, what the information lead to and, of course, what the final answers were.

The story deals with the investigation of the explosion and other related items, but also how it impacts the characters personally so you get the police procedural aspect combined with the human impact which just gives so much more depth to the story.

This is a brilliantly written book that got me caught up in the story and made me lose track of time which is exactly what I want in a book. I felt as if I was following the characters around, seeing and feeling what they did.

If you’re looking for a book to get absorbed in then this is a brilliant one to choose. It doesn’t matter if you’ve not read the first in the series either as this can easily be read as a stand alone.

The Authors:
